What are the characteristics of a cracked head on a car?

My 1999 Ford Taurus is leaking antifreeze out the rear of the motor when the system becomes pressurized. My car runs fine otherwise. Could this be a problem with one of my hoses or possibly a cracked head? What problems does a cracked head cause?

if you ran it hot or it over heated then it like you blown a head gasket or a crack head…. only way to know for sure is to take it a part and have it check by a shop
There is often antifreeze in the engine oil with a cracked head or leaking head gasket. Check the oil for a slimy foam. An antifreeze leak at the firewall side of the engine might just be leaky heater hoses. Check the hoses going from the engine into the firewall.
a leak in the intake gasket could be causing this as well. If it were due to a cracked head or gasket you would see air escaping from the overflow bottle while the Car idles. plus a pronounced loss of power and the engine would run rough with a missing cylinder.
That is very common on the 3.8 engines it may be external where you will see the coolant or could be internal where depending if is leaking into a exhaust port it will cause white smoke out of the tail pipe if it is intake your oil will be creamy looking. You will allso experience overheating,Be sure if your oil is creamy that you do NOT drive the vehicle the coolant in the oil will damage the bearings.
Hope This Helps
it’s the hose that have part metal and part plastic, it’s going around the engine on the dide of it , and it’s on the driver side.
they go bad fast on most taurus like that i changed mine and it’s kind of maintance to ford
There are freeze plugs in the rear of the cylinder heads as well as one in the engine behind the flywheel. As to cracks in the Head, they are very common on Ford cars and trucks.
Also what you describe is a common 4 cylinder problem with a water pump seal.
