What are the religious ramifications if abortion is an effective way to prevent crime?
The author Steve Levitt has written that since the judgment of Roe vs Wade ( effectively legalizing abortion ) crime has decreased. In five States that introduced legal abortion three years prior to Roe vs Wade the crime rate decreased three years earlier than the national average.
If legal abortion is an effective crime controller can it be resolved with the religious community?
Or would the religious community be willing to take on the burden and responsibility of the unwanted children and subsequent criminal element in society, for example pay and police the extra prisons and parole offices?

Actually, those of you arguing that this isn’t possibly true (@God’s Army) are completely wrong. I know its not what you want to hear, and its not a pro-abortion argument, it is supported by defended research. Research indicates that crime rates have decreased since abortions have become legal. Researchers attribute this to unwanted children (who’s subsequent home life aids in the formation of criminal behavior). However, it is not clear if this correlation is spurious or not. To answer the asker’s question, religious communities would never have the resources, ability, or dedication to be able to be successful at having similar results if there were not legal abortions.

I think it would be neat to give the task of rehabilitation to churches. I’m sure crime rate would skyrocket after that.
Abortion prevent crime? How?
If you are saying the unwanted children become criminals, then the effect of abortion would not be seen for another generation. The people won’t be committing crimes the moment they are born.
The only crime that is prevented by legalising abortion is the crime of abortion.
If you nuke the globe and make it as barren as the moon, there will be no crime either – by anyone.
Perhaps this would be the way to get rid of this world’s problems. How about that? Instead of working on a few abortions, we tackle the global problem — nuke it all!

Your question might make sense if nothing had changed since that law was passed, but since that isn’t the case, you cannot expect anyone to entertain the notion that abortion has anything to do with the crime rate.
